1945 Coupe De Paris poster.
This original poster features lovely period artwork of a stylized Talbot (?) GP car by artist Jean Luc. This race was significant as it was run in honor of Robert Benoist, a French racing driver who assisted the Resistance during the war but was tragically captured by the Gestapo and killed. Therefore this event was also known as Coupe Robert Benoist.
This huge poster measures 5.5 feet tall (43×66″) and has been professionally linen mounted. It is in excellent condition but with original fold lines that have been diminished by linen mounting. The combination of stunning period artwork, large size, and historical significance make this a fantastic piece.
The race was won by Gordini in a Simca 8, while Creuchet took 1st in the 1.5 class in a Bugatti Type 37 (T37), followed by Polledry in an Aston Martin.
*As a side note, Benoist drove with Delage, Alfa Romeo, and eventually Bugatti, and won the 1937 Le Mans along with Wimille in a T57G Tank, after which he headed Bugatti’s racing division.
