1960s Mirage M1 / Ford GT40 Steering Wheel – Pedro Rodriguez.
These large 15.15″ / 38.5cm diameter wheels were used in various years and versions of the Ford GT40 as well as its predecessor the Mirage M1. This particular original wheel was first installed in Pedro’s Mirage and is slightly ‘torqued’ at the top as he would push down hard at the top during heavy breaking, as well as from applying pressure during ingress/egress. It is also thought that this chassis had an on track incident at some point.
The Mirage M1 he drove (M.10003) was eventually modified into Ford GT40 chassis P/1074. This was the only Gulf team car to win both as a Mirage (1967 Spa) and as a GT40 (1968 Monza). This car was also used as Steve McQueen’s ‘camera car’ in the filming of the movie Le Mans!
The vintage original wheel is offered with our lifetime certificate, as well as a second one from the original race engineer who received it in period.
