Description
1/18 1975 BMW 3.0 CSL – Alexander Calder – BMW Art Car Museum Collection.
This rare 8.5″ / 21.5cm long metal model comes in a very large box complete with an acrylic base, case cover and book. A very limited edition of these were made for BMW back in 2003. Though these are not numbered, the model is long discontinued and in perfect condition with case and box.
- The BMW with which Alexander Calder initiated the Art Car series in 1975 was one of the last works he produced before his death. It was also to be one of the most interesting. In painting a real racing car, Calder had the opportunity of working with a true-to-life medium which at the same time offered new scope for playing with color and shape in motion. The car was raced at the 1975 Le Mans 24-Hour Race by the American Sam Posey and the Frenchmen Jean Guichet and Herve Poulain. (MC)
