Description
1948 Targa Florio winner’s trophy – XXXII Targa Florio 1948 VII Giro di Sicilia.
This is a large original bronze plate measuring 20.5×15.5″ (overall 25.5×20″) which weighs about 31 lbs. This rare trophy has a wonderful patina to it, with an embossed car followed by several horses as per the original Rene Lalique design done for Vincenzo Florio. It has been period framed with a nameplate describing the winners.
The race was won by Clemente Biondetti & Prince Igor Troubetskoy while driving Ferrari 166S Allemano Spider #001S. This was quite significant as it was the Scuderia’s first major international win. At the same time, this award was given to one of the very first Ferraris built – chassis 001S! Similar Targa Florio trophies can be seen in the book Piloti che Gente (page 84).
This is a very historically piece of Scuderia Ferrari history and as such it is expensive.
