Description
1984 – 1990 Ferrari Cartier Gold / SS watch
This solid 18K automatic gold & stainless watch was made on behalf of Enzo Ferrari around the same time as the launch of the 288 GTO & F40. Enzo commissioned Cartier to make just 250 of these, and gave them out to elite friends like F1 drivers Clay Regazzoni and Rene Arnoux, Jean Todt, and Niki Lauda. None were sold commercially so you could not buy these anywhere, and they have not been around since the 1980s. This is the perfect period watch to wear in your 288 GTO, F40 or 1980s supercar!
The watch is branded Ferrari Formula by Cartier and is in very good condition but with some mild abrasions to the bezel that could be polished out if you choose, as well as wear to the tan crocodile strap. It is complete with the Ferrari Formula box and instructions. This is a 40mm chronograph with date function, and utilizes the Swiss made Valjoux 7750 automatic movement. The case is in stainless steel with 18kt gold, and is water resistant.
- These are expensive but much rarer and more historically significant than a modern day Girard-Perregaux, Panerai or Hublot. An article on these was written in the No.8 1990 issue of Ferrari World, which explains the relationship Cartier and Ferrari had in the 1980s and early 1990s.
